Trump’s Muslim Ban Disappeared From His Website – Now It’s Back

President-elect Donald Trump’s proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States was one of the most controversial ideas of the presidential election. There are more than 1 billion Muslims in the world, most of whom live in countries with no links to terrorism.

Trump’s campaign website featured information on the proposed ban on Muslims until the day after his surprise victory in the general election. Reporters noted that the link on his website that used to lead to Trump’s ban on Muslim travel and immigration no longer worked.

Today, the Muslim ban was back on Trump’s website, possibly because of media attention. Its disappearance may have worried Trump supporters who fear that Muslim refugees, especially those from war torn Syria, could be a threat to American lives and might have links to terrorism. There is little evidence of this danger, since refugees and immigrants undergo rigorous screening.

While hate crimes have been reported since Trump’s victory, including bullying in schools, the decision to take down references to an ant-Muslim policy might have encouraged voters to think that Trump’s campaign rhetoric would be abandoned in favor of more sensible policies. Now that the proposal is back, questions arise about why it was removed in the first place and whether Trump intends to follow through with it.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is tipped to become attorney general, has recently down played the idea that Hillary Clinton could place a special prosecutor. Though Trump said he would investigate Clinton for ‘corruption’, the campaign now appears to be rolling back the idea.
