Keith Olbermann: The Trump-churian Candidate Is Unwittingly Helping Russia

Keith Olbermann’s latest YouTube video for GQ outlines how Donald Trump is unwittingly helping Vladimir Putin and Russia undermine the United States. Olbermann compared Trump’s campaign to the Cold War drama The Manchurian Candidate.

Olbermann ran through a number of Donald Trump’s comments about Vladimir Putin, including praising the Russian president as a better leader than those in the US. Olbermann interspersed news stories about Russia’s alleged involvement in the presidential election with quotes from the movie about a Soviet-controlled presidential candidate.

“Once you buy into the premise that the Russians would go to any lengths to influence who becomes president of the United States, the rest of the plot quickly lines up behind a kind of inevitable logic,” Olbermann said. Olbermann outlined how Trump has repeatedly defended the Russians.

“Former CIA Acting Director Michael Morell said simply, ‘In the intelligence business, we would say that Mr Putin had recruited Mr Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation,'” Olbermann said. “There is only one flaw with altering that one line from The Manchurian Candidate to insert it into our script for the Trump-churian Candidate and have it read ‘I think if Donald Trump were a paid Russian agent, he could not do more to harm this country than he is doing now.’ And that flaw is, Trump may not be a paid Russian agent, he may be stupid enough or disloyal enough or anti-democracy enough or just evil enough to be doing it for free.”
