Clinton Campaign Has Eyes On Deep Red Arizona – And Maybe Even Texas

Hillary Clinton’s campaign has launched an aggressive push into Arizona,  a traditionally red state, as the Democrat’s widen their strategy to include states that aren’t usually in play. While Donald Trump is now spending more than Clinton on TV spots, the Clinton campaign is showing signs of confidence.

The Clinton campaign is today sending Senator Bernie Sanders, First Lady Michelle Obama and Chelsea Clinton to Arizona. This is an unprecedented push into a traditionally red state that now appears to be in play. Clinton is leading in vital swing states, with a virtual tie in several others.

In deep red Utah, recent polls show a near three way tie, with independent Evan McMullin having a real chance to win the state. Trump’s support is the strongly Republican and Mormon state has declined sharply since the Access Hollywood tape was released. Several Utah Republicans abandoned Trump and there is now a real chance the state could back a third party or even vote for the Democrat.

The electoral map is now heavily tilted in Clinton’s favor. The campaign’s decision to spend time and resources in red states indicates how confident the Democrats have become. Some commentators believe the Clinton campaign sees the potential for a landslide even greater than Barack Obama’s victory over John McCain in 2008.

In one very unlikely scenario, the Clinton campaign could even capture Texas. The state should be firmly behind Donald Trump but support for the GOP candidate in that state is weaker than in other election years. Though focusing campaign resources on Texas would seem foolish for a Democrat, there is now no guarantee that Texas will remain loyal to Trump.
