Bill Maher Asks Why ‘Stupid’ Americans Are Still Voting For Donald Trump

Bill Maher is no stranger to controversy. He has often called Americans stupid and wondered why ‘the greatest country in the world’ ranks so low on issues of education and health. Last night Maher wondered why so many people were still going to vote for Donald Trump in November.

“Last November when Trump was losing in Iowa, he said in Iowa, to Iowans,’How stupid are the people of Iowa?'” Trump is now leading in Iowa. “So I guess he got his answer. That’s how stupid.”

Maher wanted to show how many voters decide to vote against their own self interests, so he turned to Florida. “Florida is a climate ravaged state full of old people,” Maher said. “And they elected, as governor, a climate change denier, who, as a businessman, oversaw the largest Medicare fraud in history.”

Maher criticized Bernie Sanders’s supporters, many of whom have decided to vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson, despite Johnson having a completely different set of policies. Maher turned to Hollywood movies to show just how many of today’s blockbusters show the world in a post-apocalyptic state. Maher suggested these movies have a message for the ‘stupid’ people and everyone else.

“In half of these movies, with ‘after humanity destroys itself in the great war, in what’s left of government decided human passions needed to be controlled,'” Maher said. “Controlled by Kate Winslet in ‘Divergent.’ Julianne Moore in ‘The Hunger Games.’ Jodi Foster in ‘Elysium.’ Tilda Swinton in ‘Snowpiercer.’ Meryl Streep in ‘The Giver.’ Who says, ‘When people have the freedom to choose, they choose wrong.’ I know that makes her the bad guy, but did you watch the Republican primaries? I think I’m with Meryl on this one.”

Referring to Trump’s ‘deplorable’ supporters, Maher said, “If it’s between letting these people decide things or a cold, technocratic boss, lady in a pantsuit, I’ll take the lady in the pantsuit.”
