Glenn Beck Publicly Breaks Up With Ted Cruz, Says He Should Have Picked Marco Rubio

When Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) finally broke down and endorsed his GOP primary opponent Donald Trump on Friday afternoon, we all should have realized that while it was going to be a bitter pill to swallow for many #NeverTrump-ers, it was going to feel like a knife in the heart to one man particularly — Glenn Beck.

The one-time Fox News host and creator of The Blaze has long been in opposition to Trump’s candidacy, finding the real estate mogul repulsive and a charlatan who doesn’t embrace true conservatism. Long a champion of Cruz, he felt empowered when the Texas Senator refused to offer his support to Trump at the Republican National Convention, instead telling Republicans to vote their conscience.

Therefore, on Monday, a downtrodden Beck let Cruz have it during a phone interview over his reversal, letting the GOP lawmaker know that he felt betrayed. In essence, Beck broke up with Cruz.

Prior to Cruz calling in, a nervous Beck walked his studio, likely knowing what he had to do. Cruz was late with his call and Glenn pondered if Teddy was going to leave him hanging. But the Republican primary runner-up did dial Beck up, and no matter how much he tried to hem and haw his way about how this election is a binary choice and Hillary Clinton is just unacceptable, the Blaze host wasn’t buying what Cruz was selling.

At one point, when Cruz tried to justify the endorsement to Beck, he got the following response:

“This is all the information you had in Cleveland. You had this information the day you dropped out of the race, and said that Donald Trump is a ‘sociopathic liar.’ You had all this information. Do you have new information that has made you say, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s now not a sociopathic liar. He is not the guy that I very eloquently spelled out, for over a year, and now there’s suddenly a reason to believe him’?”

Seriously, this went on for over 20 minutes. Beck would grill Cruz, Cruz would quietly say this was a binary choice, Beck would say that wasn’t an acceptable response, rinse, repeat.

After the Senator hung up, a despondent Beck sloughed on his couch and poured his heart out to his co-hosts. He real life said the following about Ted Cruz:

“For the very first time I heard Ted Cruz calculate. And when that happened, the whole thing fell apart for me. It’s my fault for believing men can actually be George Washington. It’s my fault.”

But he wasn’t done. Questioning if Cruz was ever the right man for him, Beck opened up and said maybe his beau should have been Marco Rubio. See, in hindsight, Rubes was really the clear choice, even if he was all squishy on immigration.

“I should have said, ‘You know who can win, you know who could beat Hillary Clinton? Marco Rubio. He’s a different kind of politician, he’s young politician, he’s a Hispanic, he can win. Let’s go for it.’”

It must have slipped his mind that Rubio endorsed Trump months ago. But, when you’re dealing with a broken heart, rationality and logic are tossed out the window. After flirting with Marco a bit, he then finished up by totally going off on Ted Cruz, lashing out and saying maybe everyone else was right to label him as a calculating, smarmy, craven politician.

“The interview pissed me off,That was so calculated that it was stunning to me. I think I have to apologize and say, maybe, perhaps, those of you who said Ted Cruz is calculating and a smarmy politician, I think I may have to slightly agree with you and apologize for saying, ‘No, he wasn’t.’”

Hopefully, someone is going to go hang out with Beck tonight and binge watch Netflix with him while giving him their shoulder to cry on.
