Trump Surrogate On Immigration: “You’re Going To Have Taco Trucks On Every Corner”

And Donald Trump wonders why he is polling so poorly with Latinos and Hispanics.

During an interview on MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes Thursday night, Latinos for Trump founder Marco Gutierrez explained to guest host Joy Reid why exactly we need to stem the tide of immigration into this country. See, if we don’t, we’ll be inundated with food trucks on every street corner selling delicious tacos.

Yep, you heard that right. “My culture is a very dominant culture and it is imposing and it’s causing problems,” said Gutierrez. “If you don’t do something about it you’re going to have taco trucks on every corner.”

Reid was immediately taken aback, but recovered to ask her other guest, Democratic Congressional candidate Adriano Espaillat, to respond. Espaillat blurted out “I’m offended,” only to have Gutierrez try to further explain his answer. He ended up stumbling over his words, saying something about how the Spanish never conquered the Mexicans before trying to talk about Trump’s ten-step immigration plan. Eventually, Reid, with a look of confused horror on her face, told him they had to move on because they didn’t have unlimited amount of time.

However, that wouldn’t be the end of Gutierrez’s embarrassing night. After Espaillat pushed back on the notion that a diverse culture full of different languages and religions is bad, Gutierrez finished up with this little gem:

“I think you haven’t been in Mexico for a long time. That’s the problem you guys have, with all La Raza, you guys defend a Mexico that doesn’t exist anymore. There’s a new Mexico that’s rising with crime and we need to stop that. And that starts right here.”

Reid interrupted, letting her guests know they were out of time, but expressed one last thought to the Trump supporter:

“It sounded like you were giving a full-scale indictment of Mexico as a country and as a culture. I don’t know if that’s a way to increase Hispanic fielty to the Republican Party. That seems incredibly counter-productive to me but that’s what you’ve decided to do.”

Mic drop, Joy.
