Florida GOP Spokesman Quits Because He Can’t Bring Himself To Support Trump

Another day, another Hispanic Republican bolting due to the GOP nominating a bigoted fascist who wants to build a big beautiful wall on the Mexican border.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that Wadi Gaitan was leaving his position as the chief spokesperson of the Florida Republican Party. He’s joining the Koch Brother-affiliated organization LIBRE Initiative, which promotes conservative and libertarian policies to Hispanic communities. According to Gaitan’s statement, he is leaving his position so he doesn’t have to be forced to support Donald Trump.

“I’m thankful for my almost two years with the Florida GOP, however, moving on gives me a great, new opportunity to continue promoting free market solutions while avoiding efforts that support Donald Trump.”

Gaitan is the son of Honduran immigrants and made his name within the party by assisting Republican lawmakers with Spanish-language interviews. He also served as the Spanish-speaking spokesman for the House Republican Caucus before moving on to his position with the Florida GOP.

Trump’s continued attacks on Hispanics, as well as other minorities, has not only caused his poll numbers to tank with non-whites across the board, but led to Latinos quitting their positions with the party. As you may recall, the RNC’s Hispanic communications director Ruth Guerra resigned a couple of months ago as she felt she could no longer defend the party over Trump’s non-stop racist onslaughts against minorities, and specifically, Hispanics.

WaPo’s Dave Weigel had the perfect response to the news of Gaitan’s departure:

Yup. By the way, the most recent poll from Florida shows Hillary Clinton with a six-point lead.
