CNN’s Loyal Trumpkins Come To Daddy’s Defense Over Anti-Semitic Star Of David Tweet

With Tuesday representing the first true news day since presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump tweeted out an anti-Semitic meme over the Fourth of July weekend, it was a given that much of cable news’ attention would be devoted to the fallout. It was also a given that Trump surrogates, and the full-time Trump supporters on CNN’s payroll, would jump through numerous hoops defending the former reality TV star regarding the less than subtle message he sent his alt-right fanbase.

During Tuesday morning’s broadcast of New Day, both former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and Andrew Jackson cosplayer Jeffrey Lord did everything in their power to deflect and distract. In both instances, the two loyal Trumpkins treated the hosts and viewers like brain-dead morons who would be willing to swallow the horseshit they were shoveling. And, since this is CNN, they are both paid handsomely to do it.

Lewandowski, who was hired by CNN last month to be a political commentator/Trump insider despite signing a non-disclosure agreement with Trump that likely prevents him from dishing on anything, immediately took aim at the media for making it big story. Of course, he also let the Trump team off the hook for, y’know, actually grabbing a meme from white supremacists and sending it out in the first place.

See, in his opinion, it was all an honest mistake, and anyway, why is the media focusing on this rather than Hillary Clinton’s FBI interview? (FBI Director James Comey would later in the morning recommend no charges for Clinton on her emails.)

From Media Matters’ transcript of the segment:

ALISYN CAMEROTA: I know that’s what he said he did, but that’s not possible. And the reason it’s not possible is because that very same image first appeared on June 15th. So weeks ago, on this — from this Twitter user, “Fishbonehead1” who frequently posted Islamophobic and racist memes. He had the original image before his account was deleted. Then it appeared on this message board, that’s a white supremacist neo-Nazi website. So he didn’t create the image.

LEWANDOWSKI: He didn’t say he created it. He said he took it off of —

CAMEROTA: Off of there.

LEWANDOWSKI: No, he said he took it off a Twitter site, which was an anti-Hillary Twitter site, and he took that image. And, look, that very well could have happened. I know Dan [Scavino] very well. He’s a good man. He’s got two young children. He is not anti-Semitic in any way, shape or form. He’s been a very loyal person, and for a firestorm to be created over an image which Dan took off of someone else’s site, I think is a little egregious, I have to tell you. Let’s talk about what the real issue is: that Hillary Clinton spent three and a half hours being investigated and having an interview with the FBI. Now the image —

CAMEROTA: That is what you want to talk about, but it gets eclipsed by some of this. I understand that that’s what you want to talk about. And we will get to Hillary Clinton, but we just have to — we have to finalize this how it happened.

Notice how Lewandowski just glosses over the fact that Scavino lifted the meme wholly from an alt-right Twitter account that peddles racist propaganda, without accreditation, and then makes it out like this was all just an innocent and honest mistake. Why? Well, the account was anti-Hillary, and being anti-Hillary must mean you aren’t bigoted in the least.

Lord did Lewandowski one better by using the old ‘those who point out racism are the real racists’ argument. Ol’ Jeffrey is a pro at this as he’s consistently fallen back on the chestnut that Democrats are the ones who really hate blacks and Jews because they were the party of slavery and the KKK back in the day, conveniently dismissing the last 50+ years of American history.

On Tuesday, he did it yet again, while also repeating the other Trump excuse regarding the tweet — that it is merely a sheriff’s badge and has nothing to do with the Star of David.

From Media Matters’ transcript of the segment:

JEFFREY LORD: John, number one, the sheriff’s image is out there everywhere. This has been around in America for well over a century. When I saw this tweet, that is exactly what I first thought of, was that it was the sheriff’s badge over money, which meant she was corrupt, which is the crooked Hillary, which is one of the themes of the campaign. You know, the whole — all of this — frankly I think some of this is a matter of culture. Now, they took it down. I don’t think they should have taken it down, frankly. It just — I mean, if we’re going to talk about anti-Semitism, then we need to be talking about why we have people on the Democratic platform committee right now —

ALISYN CAMEROTA (CO-HOST): Yep.

LORD: Pushing anti-Israel point of views who were put there by Bernie Sanders.

CAMEROTA: But Jeffrey, hold on one second.

LORD: Why is there a division over anti-Semitism in the Democratic Party? That’s serious stuff.

During more panel crosstalk, he’d also bring up how Democrats were responsible for the Civil War and slavery because of course. And it’s interesting that he’s calling Bernie Sanders, an ACTUAL JEW, an anti-Semite. But, whenever you pay a person to do nothing but espouse and defend a candidate, this is what you get. And, currently, CNN has THREE full-time Trumpkins on staff.
