So, Yeah, Donald Trump’s ‘Star Of David’ Hillary Tweet Came From White Supremacists

Well, there goes the theory that Donald Trump had no idea a tweet he sent on Saturday morning didn’t have any anti-Semitic undertones.

The presumptive Republican nominee faced quite a bit of backlash after he tweeted out a meme labeling Hillary Clinton the most corrupt candidate ever while showing a Star of David over a pile of money. The symbolism was anything but subtle, as it presenting Hillary as either secret Jew, or in the pocket of a corrupt money-grubbing Jewish cartel. Either way, the blatant anti-Semitism was there.

After letting it go for a couple of hours, Trump eventually sent out an edited version of the same tweet, replacing the Star of David with a circle. He eventually deleted the original, offending tweet. Meanwhile, some tried to claim Trump had no intention of sending off an anti-Semitic vibe, suggesting the star was a sheriff’s badge, or that this was all just political correctness gone amok.

That was blown to bits Sunday when Mic revealed that the meme originally came from the alt-right, having been posted to message boards and tweeted out by noted white nationalists. The site also pointed out that the original file name of the photo, HillHistory.jpg, is likely a nod to code used by neo-Nazis where they use a double-H to symbolize ‘Heil Hitler.’

It appears that the image was created by whoever runs the Twitter account @FishBoneHead1, which regularly tweets out racist, bigoted, pro-Trump, anti-Hillary, alt-right garbage. The meme was first sent by the account on June 15th, so this has been floating around for nearly three weeks before The Donald got a hold of it and sent it out to his millions of followers.

Of course, Trump has kinda made it a habit to retweet white supremacists and post openly racist memes to his social media accounts. So, this shouldn’t even come as a shock to anyone now. This is his political brand. He’s merely appealing to his fever-swamp dwelling base. To try to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point, and just chalk up these instances as unfortunate missteps in which he just wasn’t paying close enough attention, is to do a great disservice.

He knows exactly what he’s doing now. And he knows it won’t hurt his standing with his rabid supporters…or the Republican Party. With that in mind, the media needs to just call a spade a spade, and label Trump a bigot, a racist and a fascist.
