Trump Now Questioning Miami-Born Marco Rubio’s Eligibility For White House

Well, when your entire campaign is built on racism, xenophobia and good old fashioned bigotry, you have to keep the train a-rolling.

The morning after winning the South Carolina GOP primary, fetid wheel of cheese Donald Trump made the rounds on the Sunday show circuit. One of his stops was ABC’s This Week, where he spoke with host George Stephanopoulos on his big, beautiful, amazing, very great win in SC and how he beat all expectations. (Not really, but whatever.) However, George had to be a buzzkill and mention that Trump had used his Twitter account the day before to claim Republican opponent Marco Rubio wasn’t eligible for the presidency.

As votes were coming in on Saturday, Trump retweeted a supporter who wanted Mr. Trump to know both Rubio and Ted Cruz couldn’t legally run for the White House.

Now, Trump has been going after Cruz for a while now over the Texas Senator’s Canadian birth. But the Rubio shit is new, especially since the Florida lawmaker was born on American soil. Obviously, this is an unsubtle bit of dog whistling, as Rubio’s parents were both born in Cuba, thus being an ‘anchor baby’ in nativists’ eyes and not a true natural born citizen. (Interestingly enough, Trump’s mother was born in Scotland, thus making him ineligible is going down that rabbit hole.)

In response to Stephanopoulos asking why he retweeted it, The Donald said he wasn’t quite sure if it was the case with Marco, but he wasn’t sure and he wants people to make their own determination. When pressed by the host on whether he’s really not sure if Rubio is eligible, Trump said that “someone said it so I retweeted it” and that he hasn’t looked at it in depth. He then talked about how many Twitter followers he has and said Stephanopoulos only has like 200. (This is a real-life Presidential candidate.)

Eventually, they moved on from that after Trump talked about his poll numbers because of course.
