CNN Pundit Says There Is A Direct Connection Between Roe V. Wade And Mass Shootings

In a constant effort to show ‘both sides of the debate,’ CNN has a wide variety of shills, pundits, reactionaries and sycophants on their payroll, all willing to say whatever they think is appropriate for their team. Recently pushing his way to the top of that distinguished list is former Reagan adviser Jeffrey Lord. The conservative commentator had been largely mired in obscurity over the past couple of decades before the network plucked him up a few months ago to be their resident Donald Trump apologist.

On Friday morning, Lord continued his unbroken record of saying idiotic shit in support of Trump by somehow tying the national conversation over gun violence to abortion. Appearing on New Day, Lord participated in a discussion with host Alisyn Camerota and contributor Van Jones in regards to the network’s town hall on guns the previous evening. In response to Camerota’s question on Trump’s recent gun control rhetoric, Lord switched gears by claiming Roe V. Wade was the prime driver behind mass shootings. Seriously.

From Media Matters‘ transcript of the conversation:

ALISYN CAMEROTA (HOST): Donald Trump on the campaign trail has been saying that President Obama is coming for your guns, he hates the Second Amendment. Last night the president basically called that a conspiracy theory and he tried to tamp it down. Will Donald Trump change his rhetoric?

JEFFREY LORD: I don’t think so. You know, Donald Trump isn’t going to, you know, tamp down rhetoric on something like this. A lot of people are very concerned about this. And Alisyn, I’d add one other thing. After Newtown I wrote a column and did a considerable amount of research about the culture of violence in this country. One of the things that was quite noticeable last night unless I missed it, abortion was never mentioned. And there are plenty of Americans who believe that abortion, since Roe v. Wade has contributed to a culture of violence in this country.

CAMEROTA: But Jeffrey, this was a town hall on guns. I mean, yes, also the economy wasn’t mentioned, what’s happening in China wasn’t mentioned. One topic at a time Jeffrey.

LORD: No, no, no, no, no Alisyn. There is a direct connection here, a direct connection. If we have created a culture, in the words of one Catholic Deacon Greg Kandra, where human life is treated like trash, what do we expect here? Mass shootings have increased dramatically since Roe v. Wade. There were something like 109 of them —

CAMEROTA: So you think there’s a connection? You are saying there is a connection, a correlation between mass shootings and Roe v. Wade?

LORD: If we don’t respect human life, people are going to take human life.

Wow. I mean, I don’t even know where to start, or what to say. Jones would point out after Lord was finished that there has been an overall decrease in violent crime since the Roe V. Wade ruling, although mass shootings have been dramatically increasing in the last few years.

The amazing thing here is that CNN is not only paying Lord to dispense this kind of crazy fuckery, but has recently extended his contract through the end of 2016. Why? Likely because Trump loves the guy! Therefore, we’ll be exposed to this level of nonsense for another year. Hooray!
