Sarah Palin’s Tina Fey Impression Proves Once Again That Conservatives Suck At Comedy

Over the weekend, viewers who tuned into Saturday Night Live were rewarded with former cast member Tina Fey pulling her pitch-perfect Sarah Palin impersonation out of mothballs. Fey first premiered the impression during the 2008 Presidential election, skewering that year’s Republican Vice-Presidential nominee on a nightly basis.

Well, on Monday, the half-term Governor of Alaska and struggling reality TV star decided to turn the tables on Fey and all of her liberal funnyperson crap. In a short video that was produced by conservative publication Independent Journal Review, Palin parodied Fey’s character Liz Lemon from the show 30 Rock.

Besides Palin trying to imitate Fey, we also were treated to cameos by life partners John McCain and Lindsey Graham. Early on, the reason for the clip became crystal clear, as Palin’s latest moneygrab, er book, was given a plug while a character said the former Fox News pundit was going to put the “smackdown on political correctness.” OK.

Seriously, this thing is both painfully unfunny and just plain awkward. I guess there are right-wingers out there that are funny, but there is a reason why conservatism doesn’t translate to comedy. The self-importance, the lack of self-deprecation, the need to constantly affirm one’s worldview, speaking down to people from a position of power, just plain old meanness…none of it lends well to the world of comedy.

However, even if you are able to make right-wing ideology funny, Sarah Palin is not the person who can deliver it. She has built an entire persona on being a victim of liberal elitism and political correctness that she can’t separate herself from that for even a minute. Even in this little skit, we are exposed to references of the War on Christmas and safe spaces, as they were jammed in there without any thought of whether they were funny or not. (Hint: They aren’t.)

But, I’m sure the people who love Donald Trump and think Sarah Palin is anything other than a craven grifter will love this shit.
