What About Bernie? At GOP Debate, Candidates Just Assume They’re Going To Face Hillary

It’s more than a little odd that all of the Republican Party candidates for President of the United States only think they will be going up against one person. They are absolutely dead certain that Hillary Clinton is going to be the winner of the Democratic Party primaries. They are so certain of it that all of them mentioned how terrible she has been for the country and how they could easily beat her when they are chosen as the candidate for President. I think they were just as certain of this eight years ago when Barack Obama came from behind and won the nomination.

Isn’t it strange that people who are polling at 3% or lower still think they have a chance of winning the nomination of their party, and yet they don’t think that Martin O’Malley or even Bernie Sanders could. That’s very odd when you consider that nationally Mr. Sanders is polling in the mid-30s and is actually winning in New Hampshire. Why are these people who remain in their own race with much lower polling numbers yet believe they can win denigrating the other Democratic candidates?

Maybe it’s because she is the frontrunner of the Democratic Party and has been that way for the entire time. If memory serves, I think it was the same way in 2008 when she lost that race. However, it seems that not a single one of the Republican candidates can or want to remember that.

It’s possible they want Hillary Clinton to win the nomination of the Democratic Party because they all truly believe they can beat her. Since she and her husband have been in national politics, scandal after scandal has dogged them. None, of course, has actually panned out the way the Republicans have hoped, not even the Monica Lewinsky scandal that wouldn’t have even occurred most likely had not a special prosecutor went beyond his purview and started investigating their personal lives for anything to get them on.

Nevertheless, Mrs. Clinton has weathered each scandal no matter how far they have been blown out of proportion. Even the current Benghazi scandal seems to be finally winding down after numerous Congressional investigations that have cleared the former First Lady and Secretary of State. Despite lingering questions about her email situation that could dog her well into next year, she may pull through again and become the next Democratic Presidential nominee.

If Hillary is able to defeat her competition, though, I wouldn’t be quite so smug or confident if I were the Republican candidate. Considering her impressive track record over the last twenty-five years alone, she has always managed to survive whatever was thrown at her. Even after a defeat, she has come out stronger than before. Whether you like Hillary or not, you should never underestimate her.
