Chris Christie’s Impossible Regulation Promise

Chris Christie’s Impossible Regulation Promise

I know it’s been a little while since the last Republican debate, but I think some very important things were missed especially at the kiddie table because none of the tots in big boy pants were participating. Chris Christie got a nice little boost out of that first debate where he was relegated to the underdogs, particularly because no one really pays attention to what you say there. The proof of that is in the promises he made once he becomes President of the United States, as if he really has a chance right now with Der Fuehrer Trump still in the race.

Nevertheless, he made some bold promises that he knows quite well he can never ever fulfill, all in the grand hope that he will garner more support from the rabid Republican base and the business people who fund the party. First off, every politician decries the amount of regulation that business seems to have to deal with in this country, so Christie proclaimed that his first day in office he would sign an executive order banning all regulation of business in the country from the federal government for 120 days.

That sounds absolutely fantastic if you’re a business person, but not so much if you are anyone else. The recent Deraprim scandal where the price of a pill that costs less than a dollar to make went from $13.50 a pill to $750 overnight because the new owners decided they needed more profit might seem like a single tiny drop in a monsoon of biblical proportions. That would only be the start of such malfeasance and trickery. No regulation would mean no EPA, no DEA, no FDA, no safety for the people of this country at all where business is concerned.

I know Republicans think the free market will solve all their own problems, but it is just an illusion brought on by having their representatives sniffing too much of that freshly minted money coming from those lobbyists. The free market is great only for itself and only so long as it has little targets to feed on. You see it is a lot like an ecosystem. As long as there are plenty of rabbits out there for the wolves to prey on, they are fine and things run smoothly, but when the rabbits are thin, the wolves start tearing each other up because they begin to starve. When that happens everyone suffers until the rabbits are brave enough to come back.

So, don’t listen to these guys when they make all these goofy promises about the free market and non-regulation. Chris Christie knows very well he can’t just abandon all federal regulation on business. It is a pipe dream to make some small business people foolishly vote for him if they don’t use their heads. Please. Use your heads and think beyond the bold, impossible promises of a man who has no chance of being the next President of the United States, but is willing to say just about anything to get there.
