Fox News Tells Donald Trump To Blame Bill Clinton For 9/11, Not George W. Bush

Over the past week or so, Republican Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Jeb Bush have been going back and forth regarding the 9/11 terror attacks that rocked the nation when George W. Bush was President of the United States. Essentially, Trump has been trolling Jeb! by mentioning that Dubya didn’t keep the nation safe as the World Trade Center came down under his watch. Meanwhile, Bush has been spending much of his energy hitting back at The Donald, saying that his views on foreign policy are those of a reality TV star.

A day after telling Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace that he could have prevented the 9/11 attacks due to his “extremely tough” immigration policies, the orange-hued B-movie villain was scheduled to appear on Fox & Friends to continue his latest round of schoolyard insults. However, prior to his appearance, the hosts had to read from their Roger Ailes memo that provided them the narrative of the day. And the new conservative talking point is that Bush 43 wasn’t to blame for 9/11. No, it was his predecessor, William Jefferson Clinton.

Yep. In a discussion of the feud between Jeb! and Trump, co-host and  mouth-breathing enthusiast Brian Kilmeade explained that the attacks happened only nine months into Dubya’s presidency. On top of that, both Bush and Democratic candidate Al Gore didn’t even mention Al Qaeda during the election. Therefore, it is all on Clinton because he didn’t do enough to stop Osama Bin Laden. (Of course, we should just give Bush a pass even though he was given multiple briefings and warnings prior to the attacks.)

BRIAN KILMEADE: In reality though, you have to think about 2001. When we walked in to — when the president walked into his four years in office, Al Gore and George Bush weren’t even debating Al Qaeda, even though Bin Laden declared war on us in 1996. And most of those hijackers overstayed their visas, so unless he came in and the first thing that President Trump would have done is said, ‘I need the CIA to talk to the FBI.’

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: Immediately.

KILMEADE: ‘I need you to mix and match and merge lists, and find out if there’s anybody here who have overstayed their visas.’ That was not the talk of the country because we were on the air at that time and in 1996, he declared war on us. You might be madder, Donald Trump — and we’re going to ask him in an hour — at Bill Clinton for not taking a legitimate shot at somebody who declared war on us in the ’90s.

That is one clunky attempt at a Jedi mind trick, I’ll tell you. Fox News is really, really, REALLY hoping they can get Trump to switch gears so as not to further sully the already tarnished legacy of George W. Bush. With Hillary Clinton as the likely Democratic nominee, the focus needs to be on her and her husband wherever and whenever possible. If you are going to talk about 9/11, paint it as a disaster created by the Clintons, not the Bushes, dammit! Don’t you know how the game is played, Donald?
