Carly Fiorina: Only Those Who’ve Seen Imaginary Abortion Video Can Say I’m Lying About It

Carly Fiorina: Only Those Who’ve Seen Imaginary Abortion Video Can Say I’m Lying About It

Since giving a forceful if fact-free performance at last Wednesday’s GOP primary debate, Carly Fiorina has seen her stock soar in the crowded Republican Presidential field. The latest CNN poll has the former Hewlett Packard CEO in second place and nipping at the heels of frontrunner Donald Trump. Not too long ago, Fiorina was stuck at the bottom of the polls and relegated to the kiddies table when Fox News aired the first Republican primary debate.

Part of her surge has come due to her complete and total condemnation of Planned Parenthood and her call for Republicans to move forward with their threat to shut down the federal government rather than fund the women’s health organization. During Wednesday night’s debate, she angrily denounced PP and referenced one of the debunked and heavily-edited videos released by the Center for Medical Progress, an anti-abortion organization devoted to shutting down Planned Parenthood. She claimed that one of the videos contained footage of an aborted fetus kicking its legs on a table while a technician says it needs to be kept alive to harvest its brain.

Fiorina used that moment to question the character of our nation and state that we need to force President Obama to veto a bill defunding PP so as to prove that he’s a heartless monster, or something like that. Of course, the only problem is the horrific moment she claims she’s seen is not in any of the videos released by CMP. In an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, Fiorina was confronted over the fact that there is no actual footage of the scene she described. Rather than admit she was wrong, the White House hopeful doubled down on her lie.

Below is from the transcript of the show:

WALLACE: First of all, do you acknowledge what every fact checker has found, that as horrific as that scene is, it was only described on the video by someone who claimed to have seen it?

There is not — no actual footage of the incident that you just mentioned?

FIORINA: No, I don’t accept that at all. I’ve seen the footage. And I find it amazing, actually, that all these supposed fact checker in the mainstream media claim this doesn’t exist. They’re trying to attack the authenticity of the videotape.

I haven’t found a lot of people in the mainstream media who’ve ever watched these things. I mean, they will claim somebody watched it for them.

I will continue to dare anyone who wants to continue to fund Planned Parenthood, watch the videotapes.

And anyone who wants to challenge me, first, is going to have to prove to me that they watched it.

I can’t even. Seriously, do you see what she fucking did there? She said that the only way you can prove that she is lying is to watch the non-existent video that she said she’s watched. If you haven’t seen this imaginary tape, then you have no business challenging her assertions. That is some next-level mendacious shit that would make Mitt Romney at the height of his post-truth 2012 campaign envious.

I understand that we are apparently in a different kind of political environment now, at least for the GOP. Donald Trump’s candidacy has turned everything on its head. The feeling is that you can never, ever, ever, EVER apologize for anything. But still, the fact is that it is so very clear that Fiorina is just making up shit. When someone says something that is so blatantly untrue, and it is documented that it is false, and the media points out that you are lying, then at some point you have to back away and provide an explanation and say, “My bad”.

That shit ain’t happenin’, though. Carly sees that debate moment as her campaign’s turning point. And, let’s face it, most GOP voters don’t give a fuck about facts anyway. So she’s going to keep on plowing through and pushing falsehoods because that’s the way one wins a GOP nomination, dammit!
